Material & Comfort: Will Your Cat Actually Step on It?

A large mat only works if your cat willingly walks across it every time they exit the box.

Key material considerations:

• Soft EVA or flexible polymers are gentler on paws and usually better tolerated than very stiff plastic.

• A bit of “give” in the surface encourages cats to use the mat instead of hopping over it.

• Avoid overly sharp or scratchy textures for sensitive or declawed cats.

If you share your home with multiple cats, pick a material that won’t discourage the most sensitive cat—otherwise they may start avoiding the box area altogether.
